The Partner You Forget About: GruffyGoat + Proactive MD

Proactive MD reshapes primary care by putting advanced healthcare directly inside employer-sponsored health centers. Their model puts patients first and helps employers lower costs and improve outcomes at the same time. The website is the public face of all of it. Where employers learn what Proactive MD does, where health center locations and services live, where careers and ATS integrations route the team’s hiring, and where the company’s broader network of related properties connect back to the parent organization.

They came to us in September 2019. The internal team needed to migrate two websites away from an incumbent vendor who was asking $150 just to zip up the files. The work had to happen fast, the team did not have the bandwidth to manage it themselves, and they needed a long-term web partner who would handle the steady stream of small requests without making it feel like a project, stay available when something larger came up, and stick around long enough to know the site as well as they did.

Six years later, here is what the partnership covers:

  • Hosting, maintenance, daily backups, and a secure WordPress environment that has stayed quietly online since 2019.
  • Custom development on demand. Integration work, plugin development, fixes, and the smaller build work that adds up to a working site.
  • Fast support on the technical housekeeping. DNS, SPF, DMARC, MX records, ATS widget swaps, and the work that does not show on the page but keeps everything else possible.
  • Launch coordination for larger projects, including the 2024 site redesign and ongoing rollouts across the Proactive MD network.
  • Support for the broader Proactive MD network, including the careers site and other related properties.
  • Strategic work that has accelerated recently. A site audit and GA4 analytics setup tied to the team’s quarterly reporting cadence.

How It Started

September 2019. Proactive MD was carrying two WordPress sites on an incumbent vendor’s infrastructure. The main proactive-md.com site, and a separate jobs.proactive-md.com careers site. The vendor wanted to charge $150 just to provide a copy of the files. The team needed to move, and they needed to move soon.

After a discovery call and a walkthrough on September 13, the migration plan was straightforward. Within days, both sites were on our servers. The migration carried the careers site alongside the main site as a single piece of work rather than a separate project. That set the pattern for the next six years. One partner, the whole network.

The Quiet Years

From 2020 through 2023, the work moved at a steady, deliberate pace. The site stayed up. The team focused on building their healthcare business. We handled the small steady work that keeps a live site healthy. DNS records when health center locations changed. Plugin updates and security patching. Careers page tweaks. New landing pages for new programs. The occasional broken-link fix.

This is the stretch the partnership was named for. The kind of work that does not look like much from the outside and adds up to a site nobody on the internal team has to think about. Reliable. Out of the way. The partner you forget about because nothing breaks.

Then the Work Got Bigger

April 2024 was the bridge. Proactive MD’s team had a redesigned site ready to launch, built by another partner on their side. They brought us in to handle the cutover. We managed the launch on the agreed night, with Leah coordinating the rollout, and the new site went live cleanly with no surprises.

That kind of moment is the test of a maintenance relationship. The work behind the scenes during a site launch is real. DNS records, redirects, server prep, domain confirmation, and the post-launch sweep that catches anything that did not transfer. The launch went well because the team and the site had been in our care for five years already. We knew where everything was.

From there, the relationship has done more. May 2025 brought a comprehensive site audit. The audit opened the door to custom health center websites tied to new locations and a GA4 analytics setup tied to the team’s quarterly reporting cadence. The ticket volume climbed, and the work got more strategic.

This is what a long-term web partner looks like when the trust has been built first. Proactive MD’s team did not have to find someone new for the bigger work. They handed it to us because they already knew how we operated.

→ Looking for a web partner who handles the small stuff well enough that the big stuff stays in-house? Let’s talk about our partnership plans.

They have been our partners for webhosting, maintenance, and development for about six years now, and are the rare vendor where you forget about them simply because there are never any issues with their service. When we need assistance with anything from updating DNS records to development of a new WordPress template, their support team is lightning-quick to respond and take care of the need.
